MONITORING INTRACRANIAL PRESSURE USING OPTIC NERVE SHEATH DIAMETERIN NON-TRAUMA EMERGENCY PATIENTS

چکیده
Introduction Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring is a vital element in the diagnosis and management of several neurological disorders, such as head injury, hydrocephalus, subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracranial hematoma. The optic nerve sheath direct contact with space. This relationship provides physiological foundation for using to assess pressure. Since loosely attached nerve, space this region more distensible, appears bulbous on ultrasound. Dilation sheath, contrast papilloedema, occurs faster, can be sign increased The advancements ultrasound modalities enabled researchers enhance diameter (ONSD) measurements, further research that concentrated determining best distance behind globe measure OSND. According 1996 study, ONSD by up 60% at 3 mm compared only 35% 10 mm. Later studies showed measuring should performed globe, since superior depth linear probe, allowing reproducibility.

Elevated intracranial pressure detected by bedside emergency ultrasonography of the optic nerve sheath.
UNLABELLED Patients with altered level of consciousness may be suffering from elevated intracranial pressure (EICP) from a variety of causes. A rapid, portable, and noninvasive means of detecting EICP is desirable when conventional imaging methods are unavailable. OBJECTIVES The hypothesis of this study was that ultrasound (US) measurement of the optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) could accur...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Optic Nerve Sheath Fenestration (ONSF) in patients with raised intracranial pressure (ICP). METHODS This Quasi Experimental Study was conducted at Armed Forces Institute of Ophthalmology, Rawalpindi from July 2013 to July 2015. Thirty one eyes of 18 patients who underwent ONSF for raised ICP were followed up for one year to ascertain efficacy a...
متن کاملUsing MRI of the optic nerve sheath to detect elevated intracranial pressure
The current gold standard for the diagnosis of elevated intracranial pressure (ICP) remains invasive monitoring. Given that invasive monitoring is not always available or clinically feasible, there is growing interest in non-invasive methods of assessing ICP using diagnostic modalities such as ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Increased ICP is transmitted through the cerebrospinal...
متن کاملNoninvasive and quantitative intracranial pressure estimation using ultrasonographic measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter
We aimed to quantitatively assess intracranial pressure (ICP) using optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) measurements. We recruited 316 neurology patients in whom ultrasonographic ONSD was measured before lumbar puncture. They were randomly divided into a modeling and a test group at a ratio of 7:3. In the modeling group, we conducted univariate and multivariate analyses to assess associations be...
متن کاملsonographic optic nerve sheath diameter as a screening tool for detection of elevated intracranial pressure
introduction: timely diagnosis and treatment of post traumatic, elevated intracranial pressure (eicp), could reduce morbidity and mortality, as well as improve patients’ outcome. this study is trying to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of sonographic optic nerve sheath diameter (onsd) in detection of eicp. methods: sonographic onsd of patients with head trauma or cerebrovascular accident suspic...
